Afghanistan seeks immediate talks with Taliban

Afghanistan wishes Saudi Arabia to host direct peace talks with the Taliban, although the United States is making ready to go into independent talks with the Taliban in Qatar. The United States angered the Afghan authorities when it introduced the Qatar talks previous calendar year, and in December Afghan president Hamid Karzai recalled his ambassador from Qatar in protest.
But it seems Afghanistan and Pakistan are arranging to get separate talks underway in Saudi Arabia prior to the Qatar talks.

A member of the Taliban's leadership council, the Pakistan-primarily based Quetta Shura, also backed the report of talks in Saudi Arabia.
